Rear-facing installation

  1. Check rear-facing limits Confirm that the child weighs 4–39.7 lb (1.8–18 kg), is no taller than 49.2 in (125 cm), and that the top of the child's head is at least 1 in (2.5 cm) below the headrest adjustment handle.
  2. Choose the vehicle seat Park on level ground. Follow the vehicle manual to choose a secure rear seating position and confirm the vehicle seat itself faces forward.
  3. Check the lower anchors Find a pair of lower anchors approved by the vehicle manual and confirm 11 in (28 cm) center-to-center spacing.
  4. Check part condition Check both cup holders, both connectors, the seat pad, and both retaining pins are present and the seat is undamaged.
  5. Line up the cup holder with the left slot Move the left fabric sleeve aside. Align the rear and bottom tabs on cup holder L with the slot and bottom hole.
  6. Press the left cup holder down Press the cup holder down firmly with both hands until it clicks. Check that both tabs engage.
  7. Attach the right cup holder Align cup holder R with the right slot and bottom hole too. Press down with both hands until it clicks and check it latches.
  8. Confirm the seat pad The seat pad is required rear-facing. Use the correct crotch buckle slot, route the shoulder straps between the side and center pad sections, and press both retaining pins into the side holes.
  9. Stow the top tether Press and hold the hook's spring gate, attach to either designated plastic bar at the upper seat back, then release the gate.

  11. Take out the right connector Press and hold the right connector's red button, pull outward off the storage bar under the seat front, then release.
  12. Confirm it uses the blue path The strap must pass flat through both blue rear-facing openings. With the inner crotch buckle slot, route in front of the crotch strap; with the outer slot, behind it.
  13. Set to a rear-facing position Pull the front base recline handle and select setting 1, 2, or 3. Release to lock, then check the bubble later.
  14. Carry to the back seat Face the seat back toward the vehicle front. Lift above the vehicle cushion, then center between the two lower anchors.
  15. Lay the base flat and press tight Lower the seat gently with its base as level as possible. At least 80% of the base must rest on the vehicle seat.
  16. Press the gray button to lengthen the strap Press and hold the lower anchor adjuster's gray button, extend the strap fully, then release.
  17. Adjust until the bubble is in the blue zone Park on level ground and check the side level indicator. If the bubble is not entirely within the blue zone, pull the recline handle and change the rear-facing setting until the entire bubble is within the blue zone.
  18. Snap on the left connector With its arrow up and strap straight, push the left connector onto the vehicle lower anchor until it clicks. Pull outward to check it is secure.

  22. Check level again After tightening, recheck that the bubble is entirely within the blue zone. Follow "Secure your child," then recheck with the child seated.

Secure your child

  1. Remove bulky clothing first Remove snowsuits and bulky clothing before seating the child. For warmth, tighten the harness first, then cover with a blanket or put a coat on backward.
  2. Check infant support pads If infant support pads are supplied, check weight and shoulder height. The body support is required when shoulders are below the lowest harness setting.
  3. Hold the adjustment lever Press and hold the gray lever above the front adjustment strap. Pull both shoulder straps loose at the chest clip, then release.
  4. Open the chest clip Press and hold the chest clip button, pull both halves apart, then release the button.

  8. Bring the straps over the shoulders Lift the buckle tongues out of the side pockets. Bring the straps down over the child's shoulders and place the tongues beside the crotch buckle.
  9. Fasten both buckle tongues securely Insert both buckle tongues into the crotch buckle until they click. Pull each up; they are secure only if neither comes out.
  10. Check harness height and head clearance Rear-facing shoulder straps must be at or just below the shoulders. The top of the head must be at least 1 in (2.5 cm) below the headrest adjustment handle.
  11. Adjust the harness height Squeeze the top headrest handle, move the headrest and harness exits to shoulder level or just below, then release to lock.
  12. Check the crotch buckle slot Use the crotch buckle slot closest to the child without being underneath them. Pull the strap up to confirm the retaining plate is secured beneath the shell.
  13. Fasten the chest clip Align and close the chest clip halves until they click. Keep the clip low for now to leave room to remove slack at the hips.
  14. Remove hip slack Lift one shoulder strap while pushing the chest clip down to remove hip slack. Repeat on the other side.
  15. Pull the adjustment strap tight Pull the front adjustment strap until no webbing fold can be pinched at the shoulder. Keep the harness flat and snug without sagging or forcing an unnatural posture.
  16. Pinch to test tightness Pinch the webbing at the child's shoulder. It is tight enough when you cannot pinch a fold.
  17. Slide the chest clip to armpit level Slide the chest clip up to the level of the child's armpits.
  18. Check tightness again With the chest clip at armpit level, pinch the shoulder webbing again. No fold should be pinchable. If it is, tighten further and recheck.
  19. Recheck level with the child seated Check the level window with the child seated. The bubble must be entirely in the blue zone. Check belt routing, buckles, and tightness before every trip.

Reroute the lower anchor strap

  8. Unfasten the snaps and lift the seat pad Unfasten both lower seat pad side snaps and lift the pad to expose the lower anchor strap and guide bar.
  9. Bring the connectors back to the center Bring both connectors through the forward-facing openings into the seat center, keeping the strap on the internal guide bar.
  10. Slide along the bar to the seat front Support the entire lower anchor strap and slide along the internal bar to the blue rear-facing path at the seat front. Do not remove from the guide bar.
  11. Pass through the blue openings Align each connector with its blue rear-facing side opening and pass from the center outward. Keep the strap flat and untwisted.
  12. Check the strap's position relative to the crotch buckle Front is the direction the child faces. With the innermost crotch buckle slot, the lower anchor strap goes in front of the crotch strap; with the outermost slot, behind it.
  13. Replace the lower seat pad Replace the lower seat pad, then fasten both side snaps. Keep the straps through the blue side openings without trapping them under the snaps.
  14. Restore the headrest height Squeeze the headrest handle, lower to the child's proper height, and release. Rear-facing harness straps should be at or just below the shoulders.
  15. Reinstall the seat pad Support and lift the seat pad, then move back above the seat. Align the crotch buckle with the current slot.
  16. Press both side retaining pins back in Press both strap retaining pins back into the seat side holes. Check that both are fully seated without lifting.

  18. Restore before installing The pad and both retaining pins are restored. Check infant support pads for the child's needs, then return to "Rear-facing installation."

Install the seat pad

  1. Check the seat pad first Use this task to reinstall the seat pad if it is missing or installed incorrectly. First remove the child, take the seat outside the vehicle, and put both buckle tongues in the side pockets.
  2. Lift and align with the pad Lift the pad from beside the seat, raise it, then move above the seat. Align the crotch buckle with the slot currently in use.
  3. Pass the crotch buckle through and lay flat Lower the pad with the crotch buckle fully through the correct slot. Spread flat over the seat and backrest.
  4. Check harness routing Check both shoulder straps run between the side and center pad sections, flat, with the crotch buckle and tongues exposed outside the pad.
  5. Press in both side retaining pins Press both side strap retaining pins down into the seat side holes, fully seated without lifting.
  6. Check security and flatness Confirm both pins are in the side holes, the crotch buckle uses the correct slot, and the harness is not trapped beneath the pad. Reinstall infant supports if applicable.

Adjust the crotch buckle

  1. Determine whether to change slots first Choose the slot closest to the child without being underneath them. Change only if needed. Remove the child and take the seat outside the vehicle first.
  2. Move the body pad aside first If supplied, remove the body support pad from the seat front and set aside to expose the seat pad.
  3. Remove the covering pad Pull out both seat pad retaining pins and lift the pad until the crotch buckle clears its slot. Set the pad aside.
  4. Recline to expose the retaining plate Pull the recline handle and recline the empty seat, then release to lock. Find the crotch strap metal retaining plate under the shell.
  5. Rotate the retaining plate beneath the shell Reach under the shell and turn the metal retaining plate with its long edge along the slot so its narrow side can pass through.
  6. Pass upward through the original slot Push the retaining plate upward through the shell and seat pad from below, then pull the entire crotch buckle strap out from above.
  7. Move above the new slot After the retaining plate clears the seat pad completely, move the entire crotch buckle strap above the new slot, with the plate's long side aligned with the slot.
  8. Pass through the new slot to the underside Feed the retaining plate down through the new slot in the pad and shell. Reach under the shell and pull the plate completely through.
  9. Turn the retaining plate crosswise to secure Once the retaining plate is fully through the shell, turn crosswise and flat underneath, with its long edge spanning the slot.
  10. Pull the crotch buckle strap up Pull the crotch buckle up. Check that the retaining plate spans the slot and the strap cannot pull out through the shell bottom.
  11. Recheck the anchor strap front-to-back position With the outermost slot now used, the lower anchor strap must go behind the crotch strap. With the innermost slot, it must go in front.
  12. Reinstall the seat pad Support and lift the seat pad, then move back above the seat. Align the crotch buckle with the current slot.
  13. Press both side retaining pins back in Press both strap retaining pins back into the seat side holes. Check that both are fully seated without lifting.
  14. Reinstall the body pad if applicable If supplied and the child is no more than 19.8 lb (9 kg), reinstall the body pad as needed. Required when shoulders are below the lowest harness setting. Do not fold it.
  15. Restore, then reinstall Check that the crotch buckle passes through the new slot, the pad is flat, and both side pins are fully seated. Check infant support pads for the child's needs, then reinstall the seat.

Infant support pad

  1. Check conditions for use Perform only if these support pads are supplied. Use only for children up to 19.8 lb (9 kg). The body pad is required when the shoulders are below the lowest harness setting.
  2. Open the head pad hook-and-loop straps Find the head pad's two retaining straps behind the headrest. Open the hook-and-loop fasteners and separate the straps.
  3. Pull out the straps and remove the head pad Pull the retaining straps through the headrest slots, then remove the head pad from the front and set aside.
  4. Remove the body support pad Remove the body support pad from the front of the seat. If the child exceeds 19.8 lb (9 kg), return to the main steps afterward and do not reinstall either pad.
  5. Replace the body pad if needed Only if needed for a child up to 19.8 lb (9 kg), return the body support pad to the seat, spread it flat, and expose the crotch buckle through the slot.
  6. Feed the head pad straps through the headrest If a head pad is needed and the body pad is installed, place it against the headrest front and feed both retaining straps through the slots to the back.
  7. Secure the rear retaining straps Overlap and press the two retaining straps' hook-and-loop surfaces firmly together behind the headrest. Keep the head pad in front so it cannot slip.
  8. Pull up to adjust the head pad Pull the head pad up to support the child's head. Keep both rear retaining straps securely fastened.
  9. Recheck the support pads and harness Do not use the head pad alone. Spread the body pad flat, keep harness straps untwisted, and ensure harness pads do not obstruct the chest clip at armpit level.
